Back to the music!
Adaan is a former colleague-turned-friend. We used to come to work early, chat a bit, listen to a track, eat our breakfast at the cafeteria and then log on at 9 am. He discovered a taste for jazz the day I played Miles Davisâ So What. He liked the classics but always preferred the slow tracks. So the days went from me playing whatever I wanted, to slow jazz for Adaan.
One night at the office, it was just the two of us chasing a deadline. We were both exhausted. After gulping a small cup of coffee at the cafeteria and catching a few minutes of a cricket game playing on the television, we came back to the bay. Adaan brought his laptop over and sat in the cubicle across mine. He looked at me and said in his most serious tone: âPlay something fast, machiââadding the endearing Tamil word for âbrotherâ.
âNothing slow, ok? We need to get this done and dusted.â
I paused for a moment and considered what he said. The man who always enjoyed slow jazz wanted energy. I took my phone out and played this track, followed by a few tracks from Joe Satriani. We left the office in 45 minutes.
See you all tomorrow!

I love that album. Your opening here reminds me of some of the gigs I played as a singer songwriter to an almost empty bar. I quickly learned to engage the people and turn it into a social event. Some gigs I played with 15 people in the audience were as good as a crowded bar who are singing your hooks. Well almost :)
