When was the last time you were actually happy?
This is such a powerful track and I’ve revisited this scene from Bojack Horseman many times in the past year. If you don’t want spoilers, I have the Spotify audio embedded.
Happiness is not money in the bank. It’s not the number of awards you’ve won at work. Or the double-digit years you’ve spent at one company. Nor is it the number of books you’ve written or read, or the false praise that’s heaped on you.
Happiness is the exploration of the self. To be in a small house with good flatmates. To have a park to walk through in the morning. The phone call from mom and dad on the weekend. To know you can make a difference with a small donation to a charity.
Watch the video and listen to how Kevin’s song is beautifully layered underneath. You will be coming back to it when you feel stranded.
If you come to find out who you are
Then, may you find out, may you find out who you are
And if you come to search for what is lost
Then may you find it, may you find it at any cost
And if you come o'er from far
Then, may it not touch you or ever do you harm
See you tomorrow for the State of the Newsletter #5.

P.S. We covered another track from the Bojack television series before!
I’ve never watched Bojack Horseman. Maybe I should. (Also: I liked the song.)
Morby’s lyrics always pull me in.
