I remember receiving Mint Royale’s cassette in the mail instead of Matchbox Twenty’s because the store ran out of them and they didn’t want to leave a customer empty-handed. I remember being mad as heck at the shopkeeper and because I was a dumb pre-teen at the time, I took my anger out at Mint Royale.
That poor cassette lay unopened in the back of my wooden chest of drawers for years. The dance music never played, and the elephants stood precariously balanced on their unicycles, the lions in stasis through their rings of fire. The circus was in town, but no one was in the cheap seats.
That injustice is righted today.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, I proudly bring to you—From Rusholme with Love.
Nikhil.
P.S. The astute reader from the 90s would have recognized the WWF reference to The New Age Outlaws.
The expectations we have in our youth, what we take for granted. Gems come when we wait. Maybe you weren't ready to hear it at the time
OK, this has to be my favorite so far. Favorite song (I can't hold still while I listen to it) and favorite writing. Bravo, bravo, and a big fat dollop of bravo.
