I continue to enjoy his music each time I play that CD. In the midst of sorrow, blue joy.

After my stepdad passed away, I went home to help my mom downsize. It was also a good excuse to grab a box of records of mine I'd left when I traded the west coast for the Midwest.

At any rate, I was expecting 1 box...but found four. 1 each for my mom, my dad, and my stepdad. Going through the latter, I had the same experience in Oregon as you did in Maine, often catching myself thinking, "he listened to xxx?!"

When we were young, going through someone's record collection was often revelatory. I guess I never expected the same thing would happen with one my parents.

Great post. I'm also dealing with a pile of things that I had to take home when my father died last year. My mother is still at home but didn't know what to do with his photos, books etc. She still has their records and CDs. Never had an 8-track but a flatmate had a VW combi years ago that came with an 8-track which was pretty cool.

I’m sorry for your loss, Luigi. These are bittersweet moments as we uncover more about our loved ones.

(There was also a 78RPM record in the mix, but I have no turntable!).
