Hey folks,
Let’s close out the week with a classic Bon Jovi track. It’s been a long while since I heard it and it brought back many fond memories of simpler times.
Back in those days, we had dial-up internet, visited cyber cafes and paid by the hour, watched old anime videos on Real Media, burned DVDs, and listened to music on cassettes. I could never find tapes with explicit lyrics, and I recall listening to Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP with so many interspersed bleeps and mutes. It was also a frustrating time to live in; little did we know the technology era right in front of us—iPods, mp3 discs, broadband internet, Napster, Kazaa, and many other gifts.
Bon Jovi’s Crush, released in 2000, with Coldplay’s Parachutes, remains a time capsule. It was the closing chapter of a decade and the dawn of a new millennium of bolder, more experimental genres. Bon Jovi themselves tried a country album, Lost Highway, in 2007, which received lukewarm reviews.
But one enduring mystery remained: Who was Frankie?
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
It was Frank Sinatra, Jon Bon Jovi’s great-uncle on his father's side.
I hope you will revisit this nostalgic album over the weekend. I’d love to hear your memories about this classic record!
See you on Monday!

Ha, I knew Frankie was Sinatra, but didn't know they were related. I also remember this as one of the first songs I really really liked. I must have been 10 or 11 when I first heard it. It sounded so different to anything else I had ever listened to.
I'm not sure I knew about Jon's familial connection to Sinatra, Nikhil! Did you know that Jon's cousin, Tony Bongiovi (pronounced how Jon has phonetically spelled his name) has a long list of production credits over the decades?
Tony's zenith, for my tastes, came when he produced my 2 favorite Ramones albums, "Leave Home" and (particularly) "Rocket to Russia." But, he's also produced albums by Sire Records label-mates, Talking Heads, Gloria Gaynor, Aerosmith, and many more!
As I care absolutely nothing about Jon's musical career and/or mundane output, I may actually do a dive of sorts into Tony's interesting and prodigious career.........unless you beat me to it, that is! Feel free!🎶🎵👍
